The field of Cardiology has undergone incredible advancement in the past 30 years, perhaps more than any other field of medicine. The development and refinement of techniques for diagnosis, such as cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, and nuclear imaging, have allowed cardiologists to make precise diagnoses of most cardiovascular disorders. The birth and growth of interventional cardiology now allows cardiologists to treat conditions such as blockage in the coronary arteries or other major arteries with catheter techniques rather than open heart surgery.

The physicians of ICA have been actively involved in and have made significant contributions to many of these advancements. Working in the exciting environment of the Methodist DeBakey Heart Center, ICA physicians founded the Center for Research in Cardiovascular Interventions and have played an major role in clinical and basic research.
